Not less than 19 passengers perished yesterday in a road mishap that happened on KM 3, Sabo-Oyo-Ogbomoso Expressway. The accident involved a Sokoto-bound white Toyota HIACE 18-seater bus with registration number NTT 522 ZY and a black Toyota saloon car.
In sad descriptions by eyewitnesses, the victims died instantly, with shattered bodies littering the road. The only survivor is receiving medical treatment at Opabode Hospital, Oyo.
Confirming the incident, Sector Commander, Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), Joshua Adekanye, blamed the road crash on human error caused by flagrant disregard for the traffic law.
According to him, “it happened at 7:45p.m. and out of the 20 passengers on board of the two affected vehicles, 19 died on the spot while the survivor is receiving medical attention in a neighborhood hospital.
“The bodies of the victims have been deposited at the General Hospital Oyo. The drivers of the two vehicles were among the victims that died on the spot. The deceased driver of the Toyota HIACE was on a wrong lane to Oyo and collided with the Toyota Corolla saloon car.”
The sector Commander, therefore, appealed to the road users to always be conscious of the traffic rules.
