37 youths win N5m in Ominiverse technology tournament

Ominiverse Africa, an arm of Omniverse Technology industry, a platform that brings together different eco-systems at the intersection of technology, innovation and creativity has given out N5 million to 37 winners in different categories of gamers.

The winners participated in the Omniverse gaming tournament that started some time ago in the Landmark Event Centre.  The round-up ceremony took place at Pop Central, Lekki Phase 1, Lagos.

Speaking at the event, the Chief Executive Officer, Games Evolution Technology, Solakunmi Adenipebi, said contestants, who were chosen through online entries, came from every state in Nigeria and passed through a lot of stages before getting to the final.

He described gaming as a huge career industry for the next generation of Nigerian youths which should be encouraged by the government.

“Gaming is for smart individuals and ninety percent of professional gamers are doing well in school which covers both primary and secondary school students.

“We allow students to play games that can assist them in their course of studies such as mathematics, English, geography among others and in fact, unintelligent students cannot be gamers for it would be difficult for them to cope.

“Last year, we signed an agreement with the current governor of Lagos State on how to inculcate gaming into the educational system and it would be very good if the federal government could also make it part of the school curriculum.

“There are over 40 million youths that have gone into gaming in Nigeria because of the advent of mobile phones,” he said.

He also remarked on the high level of employment springing up in the sector since between 2019 and 2024, hundreds of gaming sports, studios and companies have sprung up that have contributed vastly to the economy through the creation of employment opportunities.

Co-convener, Omniverse Africa, Charles Emembolu said the gaming tournament was held in seven different categories in which thousands of contestants across the country participated.
