57 years after, ISCAN inaugurates first female president

Funmi Ekundayo, the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of STL Trustees Limited (STL) is also the immediate past President of the Association of Corporate Trustees of Nigeria.

After 57 years of operating as a body, the Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators of Nigeria (ICSAN), has elected Funmi Ekundayo as its first female president and chairman of council.


At her investiture in Lagos, which attracted dignitaries across sectors of the economy, including traditional rulers, Ekundayo, promised to focus on the narrative of the institute of being at the forefront of good corporate governance.

She promised to deepen the relationship with relevant public and private sector players, including not-for-profit organisations and take corporate governance across the board.

She maintained that activities would include building and strengthening membership skills, as well as collaborating with critical stakeholders towards creating value in the corporate governance space and society.

According to her, ” We are also determined as a new administration to also kick off the building project, ICSAN House. We have signed an agreement with the contractor and will kick off the contract in earnest.”

In her keynote address, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of LOTUS Bank, Kafilat Araoye, who spoke on
‘Diversity, Inclusiveness and Corporate Governance as Tools for Sustainable Development’, said that improving corporate governance and ensuring inclusiveness will enhance board performance.

She said the corporate governance function must steer the direction of an organisation across important dimensions of strategic planning, succession planning and enterprise risk management.

Emphasising how to foster diversity and inclusiveness for sustainable growth, the bank chief said organisations must understand current systemic issues on diversity, equity and inclusion work; set measurable targets, be accountable, dig deep into data and hire for culture contribution.
