AFCON 2023: Taraba governor urges Super Eagles to “bring the cup home”

Governor Agbu Kefas of Taraba State has urged the Nigerian national football team, the Super Eagles, to put in extra effort to secure victory in the ongoing African Cup of Nations (AFCON).

Kefas issued this plea in a statement where he not only congratulated the team for their outstanding performance, particularly their triumph over the Cameroon team but also underscored the importance of sustained hard work to clinch the AFCON title.

Attributing the success to enhanced leadership and management within the nation’s sports sector, Kefas emphasized the unifying role of sports in bringing together diverse factions, forging stronger connections both on the continent and globally.

Affirming his administration’s unwavering commitment to sports development, the governor stressed the need to explore and nurture talents while enhancing sports facilities.


He outlined comprehensive plans to elevate football within the state and explore the potential in diverse sports such as golfing, basketball, tennis, and combat sports.

Represented at the games by Taraba State’s Commissioner of Youth and Sports, Joseph Joshua, Governor Kefas passionately encouraged the Super Eagles to strive for victory, declaring, “Bring the cup home.”

He said the team reflects the state’s resolute dedication to fostering a thriving sports culture and achieving success on the international stage.
