African Church society marks 80th anniversary

The Twelve Brethren Society, an arm of The African Church Cathedral Society, Ebute-Metta, Lagos, has commenced its 80th anniversary celebration as a church society.

In celebration of its unwavering efforts towards humanity and the growth and development of the church, Acting Chairman of the society, Adekunle Jaiyesimi, commended the initiative of the founding fathers of the society for deeming it fit to establish it.

He said that the society was inaugurated on January 2, 1944, owing to the yearning needs of the youths to bring new development into the affairs of the church.

“Initially when the society started, there were just 12 members but today, we are more than 100 in number. We have members both in Nigeria and Diaspora and all of them are contributing to both the society and the church. We have spread the tentacles to other churches worldwide.”

“ItIhas evolved beyond The African Cathedral Church to other churches,” he said.

According to Jaiyesimi, who is also the chairman of the anniversary committee, the event will feature various exciting and spiritual-filled activities to celebrate the glory of God on the society and its members.

“The celebration will feature an official unveiling of the 80th anniversary logo, commemorative memorial services for the departed souls, symposium and wellness lecture and novelty match and fitness work.

“This will be followed by visitation to select motherless babies’ homes, elderly homes and less privileged homes as part of the society’s social responsibilities.

“Other activities lined up include street evangelism, community hymn singing, anniversary dinner and fund-raising, among others.”

Meanwhile, the General Secretary of the society, David Araoye, said the motto of the society, ‘unity and faith,’ is the bedrock of the society, noting that the group is united. He said: “We thank God for bringing us together. That is what we inherited from our fathers.”

A member of the society, OlukayodeSenbore, said membership of the society had spread across all African churches in Nigeria and in the Diaspora, saying: “Our male children are automatic members of the society. When they become of 18 years above, they join our meeting to ensure continuity. We do encourage members in other churches to establish their wings and have meetings regularly.”
