Amosun’s wife encourages Nigerians to seek therapy

Olufunso Amosun

Wife of the former governor of Ogun State, Dr Olufunso Amosun, has stressed the need for Nigerians to go for therapy, stating that there has been a kind of stigmatisation against therapy over the years.

She said this, at the weekend, in Lagos, while unveiling an online therapy arm of the Institute of Counselling in Nigeria (ICN). Amosun, who doubles as a board member of the ICN, said the Institute had over the years been at the forefront of leading the campaign for mental health awareness in Nigeria and propagating the sensitisation on the news for professional counselling and therapy in Nigeria and Africa as a whole.

According to her, people are no doubt going through a lot in Nigeria and we are not unaware. That is why every opportunity to improve the quality of life of Nigerians is a welcome idea.

Also, the Executive Director of ICN, Dr. Tolulope Oko-Igaire, said the Institute had graduated over 500 therapists, stating that part of the Institute’s dream is to make therapy accessible to everyone irrespective of their background, belief or status.

Oko-Igaire said: “We have tried to have this platform over the years but were unable to due to various bottlenecks, but today, we have been able to achieve this feat, a platform where all Nigerians, Africans and the whole world can walk into access counselling on their terms.

“We have always known that professional counselling is the new generational skill for optimal functionality and societal development.” and that is why we are playing our part in making sure that people think, feel and act right.”
