Traders under the auspices of Amawbia Market Amalgamated Traders Association (AMATA), led by Daniel Nwokoye, have conferred the award of ‘Justice Defender’ on Anambra State Commissioner of Police (CP), Aderemi Adeoye, for his role in reducing cult-related killings, kidnappings, and other crimes in the state.

Nwokoye, who presented the award alongside the President-General of Awka South Markets Amalgamated Traders Union (ASMATU), Ozo Anayo Nweke, said the award was in recognition of the CP’s intervention in restoring peace at Eke Oyibo Market.

He described security in the market as being of utmost importance to the state government because it is opposite the governor’s lodge and serves as Amawbia police neighbourhood market.

He said the CP is a man of resilience whose proactive measures have checked detractors that use cultism and violence to intimidate traders and scare away buyers and investors.

He also said the award was in appreciation of the CP’s intervention in the AMATA leadership tussle as well as his directive to all stakeholders to steer clear of the market’s leadership and allow Nwokoye to lead unhindered.

Contributing, Nweke said the CP deserved the award, describing him as a defender of the defenceless.

Nweke said he had known the CP for years as a man of action and justice, stressing that the intervention of the police boss has halted the alleged evil intention of Nwokoye’s opponents who wanted to sabotage the ongoing modernisation projects in Amawbia market.

Responding, Adeoye thanked the traders for finding him worthy of the award, adding that he would not rest on his oars to sanitise every nook and cranny of the state through justice.
