Atiku asks INEC to declare Fintiri winner of Adamawa guber poll

Ahmadu-Umaru-Fintiri
Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate in this year’s general elections, Atiku Abubakar, has asked the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to declare Governor Ahmadu Fintiri winner of last weekend’s gubernatorial contest in Adamawa State.

Addressing journalists, yesterday, in his Yola residence shortly before departing for Abuja, the former Vice President warned the electoral umpire against causing chaos in the state.

“The action of INEC is capable of causing havoc. Adamawa is a very peaceful state. But the Commission is trying to do things unlawful, which are not in the interest of the state,” he said.

Abubakar maintained that based on collated results from 20 of the 21 councils in the state, his party was in clear lead, and as such, Fintiri should be returned.

The Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Nuhu Yunusa, withheld result from Fufore Council last night after announcing result for the other 20.

He had said that he would announce the result by 10a.m. yesterday. But at the time of filing this report, INEC officials had declared the election inconclusive.
