Borno, firm partner on 1,000-unit housing estate in Maiduguri

The Borno State government has allocated 113 hectares of land for the development of housing projects in Maiduguri, the state capital.The land will enable private developers to address the pressing need for affordable housing. The allocated 113 hectares of land is part of 2,000 hectares earmarked for construction of 1, 000 houses along the east, west and south Maiduguri ring road.

While announcing the allocation of land, in Maiduguri, the Executive Secretary, Borno Geographic Information Service (BOGIS), Adam Bababe, stated that the land allocation was agreed during a meeting between government officials and the Green Path Development Company.

Bababe said the initiative aligns with Governor Babagana Zulum’s urban renewal projects, which prioritises the upgrade of urban spaces to improve the living conditions of residents across the state.

Besides the urban renewal, the BOGIS boss added: “The completion of 1,000 housing units will overcome the challenges of housing deficit among the residents in the state.”

He, therefore, directed members of the Green Path Development to submit detailed project proposals for the government’s review and approval. “You should also consider the cultural aspects of Maiduguri, so that the designed project complies with the local culture,” he said.

The Group Managing Director, Green Path Development, Dr Babagana Mohammed, commended the governor for engaging the private sector by allocating them land to build 1, 000 houses in Maiduguri.

He said that he will adopt top-notch housing solutions with high-quality materials, and modern construction techniques. “We’ll ensure compliance to the local building codes and other land regulations on the terms of contracts in bridging the housing deficits.

The company pledged to conduct site assessments and design layouts that optimise the space and functionality of the various housing types.
