Catholic church awaits Police report on fire at Kaduna Seminary

fire incident

Fire has razed the Saint Peter Catholic Seminary, located in Kateri village, along the Kaduna-Abuja Expressway. The inferno affected buildings and other properties including two dormitories, dinning hall, kitchen and the laboratory of the school.

Speaking on the incident, the Vice Chancellor, Catholic Archdiocese of Kaduna, Christian Okewu Emmanuel, in a statement said the cause of the fire has not been ascertained.

Rev. Fr. Emmanuel said further information on the incidence would be communicated to the public in due course. Reacting the incident, the Secretary General, Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in the 19 Northern States and Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, Elder Sunday Oibe, said the matter has been reported to the police for investigation.

Oibe told The Guardian: “I have called my director who is a leader in Catholic Church, the incident is true. We are investigating the cause of the fire. This is because as at the time of the fire there is no concrete details as to what actually led to the outbreak.”

He said: “It is an unfortunate development. Since the Catholic has reported the incident to the police, let us hope the police will help unravel the cause. If it is as a result of an electrical fault, which is unlikely or if it is the issue of sabotage, the police should be able to unearth this matter”.

This is a seminary where they train people who will train others in the society. Why is such thing happening at this critical time? And what this simply means is that people should be wary of how they handle the issue of fire. We will wait patiently to see the outcome of police investigation.”
