The Institute of Chartered Chemists of Nigeria (ICCON) has proudly conferred the prestigious award of Chemistry Ambassador on Dr. Clement Olusegun Obadimu.
This recognition comes in light of his outstanding contributions to the practice and growth of the chemistry profession. The award ceremony took place during the 19th Mandatory Continuing Professional Development (MCPD)/Induction and Fellowship Investiture of the Institute in Lagos, themed “Chemical Risk and Vulnerability Assessment for the Chemical Industry in Nigeria.”
Dr. Obadimu has made remarkable contributions to the field, including sponsoring students and professionals, providing grants for research and skills development, facilitating collaborations with relevant stakeholders, and lecturing in chemistry at the university level for more than 12 years pro bono. These efforts have significantly bolstered the chemistry profession in Nigeria.
During the event, ICCON’s Registrar/CEO, Wilford Jwalshik, emphasized the significance of the Chemistry Ambassador Award, which is bestowed upon esteemed chemists who have made substantial contributions to the field globally. He praised Dr. Obadimu for his unwavering support, commitment, and contributions to promoting chemistry, highlighting how these efforts positively impact public health and environmental protection.
Jwalshik reiterated ICCON’s dedication to ensuring that chemistry and chemistry-related positions in the chemical industry are occupied by licensed chemists. He assured members that the implementation of new regulations to this effect will soon commence.
In his speech, Jwalshik called for increased support and dedication from other fellows and members—both individual and corporate—in achieving desired changes within Nigeria’s chemistry-related industries. He noted that positive engagement from members is crucial for making significant progress and contributing to both national and global development.
