Construction works stalled in S’East over new price of chippings

Construction works have been stalled in the South East region, as over 500 trucks meant to distribute granites and chippings to various locations in the region are now stranded at Ishiagu, Ebonyi State quarry, over new price.

This is as a result of a disagreement in operational costs in the products between Chinese Companies mining the products, the distributors and the Ebonyi State government.

While the quarry companies are insisting on a new rate of N18, 900 per ton of chippings, blaming the development on running costs, the state government, which intervened following a protest by distributors, is insisting on not more than N13, 000 per tonne.

A meeting convened, at the weekend, to find a lasting solution ended in a deadlock, as the companies refused to shift ground, unless otherwise by their parent companies in China.

The Guardian gathered that the mining companies had increased the price of their services, resulting in a protest by distributors, who had insisted that it would negatively affect their business. They had, therefore, refused to buy the products at the new rates until the companies returned to the old price regime.
