Court adjourns suit to stop Bayero, four others as Emirs

A High Court in Kano on Monday adjourned the sitting in a case filed by the State Government, to stop Ado Bayero and four others from parading themselves as Emirs.

The case was adjourned after the motion on notice was filed by the plaintiffs on interlocutory injunction.

The interim order was also granted by the court and the first defendant in the suit served the plaintiff with a counter affidavit which they were to respond to.

The presiding judge, Justice Amina Adamu, after listening to both counsels adjourned the hearing of the suit till July 2, 2024.

The Police had earlier revealed why its officers raided the palace of the Emir of Kano at Gidan Rumfa to sack the local hunters guarding the reinstated Lamido Sanusi.

The outgoing Kano Commissioner of Police, Usaini Gumel, in an interview on Monday, said the officers were deployed to check security threats until the resolution of the tussle over the emirship of the state.

Gumel who is an assistant inspector-general of police added that the two palaces have been fortified with additional security agents.

”Armed personnel have been deployed to provide security at the Kofar Kudu Palace, the residence of Emir Malam Mohammadu Sunusi, and the Nasarawa Mimi Palace, the residence of Emir Aminu Bayero,” Gumel said.

“The police appeal for public support and urge residents to provide information that could aid in maintaining peace, progress, and political stability.

“The command is committed to providing the required security that will enable all residents to pursue their legitimate activities without threats to lives and property.”

The Federal High Court had voided Sanusi’s reappointment as Emir, having asked the state government to halt the implementation of the Kano Emirate Council (Repeal) Law, 2024.

Justice Abdullahi Liman in his judgement, however, ruled that Sanusi’s reappointment was null and void because the Kano government disobeyed the court’s earlier order restraining it from taking further action on the new emirate council law of the state.
