The Coalition of United Political Parties (CUPP) welcomed the sudden romance by the immediate past governor of Kaduna State, Nasir el-Rufai with top opposition political figures and parties in the country.

The applause comes against the backdrop of el-Rufai’s meeting with stakeholders of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in Abuja, which has since kept tongues wagging in certain quarters.

CUPP’s National Secretary, Ameh Yakubu Peter, described the latest move as a welcome development to the opposition ranks in Nigeria.

He said: “El-Rufai is one political heavyweight that should not be ignored because if you take time to examine properly the formation of All Progressives Congress (APC), then you will see that he played a very important role in the formation of the party. So anyone, who is attempting to wave el-Rufai away with the stroke of hand, is not aware of the consequences of such a decision.”

“We in the opposition will be watching keenly to see his next move, because his addition to the rank of opposition political parties will be a major blow to the ruling party in Nigeria.”

When contacted, the APC’s National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, said he was not aware of any parley between el-Rufai and opposition figures in the country.
