Customs seizes drugs, ammunition worth N6b from South Africa, Canada

The Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi,  has seized 46.39 kilogrammes of cocaine, five kilogrammes of colorado indica, five pistols and 445  rounds of live ammunition and several empty pistol magazines.


The Comptroller of Customs Tin Can Island Port Command, Lagos, Dera Nnadi while conducting Adeniyi and his entourage round the seized items, said that the individuals linked to the seizure had not been disclosed totally, as the investigation into their criminal network were he said: “We are committed to working with other agencies and will not leave any stone unturned in ensuring that the perpetrators involved face the full consequences of the law. Our pursuit for justice underscores the determination to dismantle the network enabling  this criminal act and reinforcing our dedication to upholding the rule of law and safeguarding the security and well being of Nigerians people.”

According to him  the seized items are:  65 packet of colorado indica weighing 32.5 kilogram seized from 1 by 40 footer container number UACU 53 4833 /6 imported from Canada. The second one is the seizure of 17 packet weighing 16.69 kilogram  confirmed to be cocaine, 151 packet Colorado indica weighing 107 kilogram. One  pistol with serial number 471908. Empty magazine, 49 round of 7.62 millimeter live ammunition. 197 millimeter live ammunition.  Some precursol chemical  for manufacture of methamphetamine eight bags and tartanic acid  chemical, 100 kegs of unspecified substances which were all seized from another container number MSCU 458177/0 which was also imported from Durban, South Africa. The third  is  fourth packet weighing 39.7 kilogram which has also been confirmed to be cocaine. One thousand and twenty six packet weighing 688.2 kilogram confirmed to be Colorado indica and 2 pistols without serial number and one pistol with serial number AZY FRA6YXSO 12101181  and they are accompanied  by 3 empty magazine 275 rounds of 5.5 milligram live ammunition,  6  roundsv  of 9MM  ammunition which were all seized from the third container  a 40 ft container number THRO 796807/1 which was also imported from Durban South Africa the fourth consist of 226 packet  weighing 128 kilogram substance confirmed to be cannabis indica seized from  1 by 40 ft container number MEDU 785276/3 which was also imported from Durban South Africa. “

He said that  in recent months  the Nigerian customs service have reported a number of successfully executed multiple interception and seizure of illicit drugs, arms and ammunition at various locations.

“This interception have brought to light a worrisome trend whereby criminals network engage in collaborative attempt to sabotage and subvert the competency of our agency charge with mitigating the entry of such substances, our action underscores the persistence challenges post by sophisticated smuggling network emphasizing the critical means for enhance cooperation and advanced strategy to fortify the nation border and preserve the safety and security of our citizens in recognition of the threats and the collaborative nature of criminal activities.”

He said that the Nigerian customs service has steadfastly prioritize strategic partnership with stakeholders over the past seven months.

“The National vice president of Association of Nigerian Licensed Customs Agents, Prince Olusegun Oduntan earned his members to know their customers.
“If you know your customers you will not  fall into things Ike this.
.We will continue to talk to our members to know who they are dealing bookwith.. You can see that most of the things they packed there are not worth importation to Nigeria.”
