Dangote to distribute 80,000 bags of rice to vulnerable Lagos

To help cushion the effect of the harsh economy and galloping food inflation, 80,000 vulnerable Lagos residents will get 10kg bag of rice each from Aliko Dangote Foundation.

The Chairman, Dangote Limited, Aliko Dangote, revealed this when he came to intimate Lagos State government about plans to help residents cushion the effect of the harsh economy.

Speaking during a brief ceremony at Lagos House, Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, said the Aliko Dangote National Food Intervention Programme is a commendable effort that other wealthy individuals and corporate organizations should emulate.

Sanwo-Olu thanked the foundation for the Food Intervention Programme saying his administration would continue to explore various strategies to ameliorate poverty one of which is the Eko cares programme and others aimed at giving the people opportunity to grow.

The Chairman of the Foundation, Aliko Dangote, said the gesture was necessitated by the prevailing high cost of food in the country, ensuring that all 36 states get their fair share of the one million bags of ten kilogramme bags of rice through partnership with non-governmental organisations and faith-based groups.

Also speaking, Group Executive Director, Commercial Operation, Dangote Limited, Fatima Dangote, said that the goal is to reach the 774 local councils in Nigeria with the bags of rice.

She said the foundation has been supporting vulnerable residents across Nigeria through different intervention programmes but were not publicized because its chairman believes it should be between him and God.

“There are many other things the Dangote Foundation is doing, we are also serving 2,500 bread all over Lagos daily. We started this from 2020 since COVID and there is no way we can pull out of this.”
