Delta State government, yesterday, signed Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Serendib Capital, United Kingdom (UK), to join other world nations to endorse the restoration of mangrove forest, sea grass protection and preservation of the ecosystem for conservation and environmental sustainability.
By signing the MoU in the Government House, Asaba, Delta has taken the lead among the 36 states to move in favour of the restoration and preservation of the state’s mangrove forest and its ecosystem.
Speaking at the signing ceremony, Governor Sheriff Oborevwori said: “The MoU we just signed is very critical to the restoration and preservation of our mangrove forests and the entire ecosystem.”
According to the governor, who commended all stakeholders for their visionary approach and unyielding commitment to shaping a more sustainable environment for current and future generations, this initiative would assist in prioritising environmental sustainability, as well as ensure local demands for job creation, infrastructural development, education and climate resilience structures.
The governor further said: “By dedicating these critical elements into the conservation effort, we are not only safeguarding our natural heritage, but also fostering social economy and enhancing our communities’ resilience to cope with changes that come with climate change and deforestation on a sustainable basis.”
