The Committee of District Chairmen made the endorsement ahead of the election into the National Executives Council of the union scheduled to take place in March 2021. Those in favour included: Comrade Bolaji Agbooola of Apapa District 1; Comrade Tunde Balogun, Apapa District 3; Comrade Wasiu Ola, Tincan District 3; Comrade Wole Adetunmobi, Tincan District 2; Comrade Sharafa Oguntoyinbo, Tincan District 1; and Comrade Moses Osagie, Apapa District 2.
Recounting the several positive changes experienced by dockworkers in the maritime sector, the committee said Adeyanju had within his four years as the incumbent president-general touched the lives of all members of the Dockworkers through improved welfare package negotiation with their employers.
They maintained that before now, there was no structure for Dockworkers, adding that as a former president of the branch, Adeyanju used his office to negotiate and get good salary structure for all workers including emoluments.
The committee also expressed pleasure over the recent insurance scheme put in place for workers so that they can have something to fall back on after retiring from work.
According to them, the peace enjoyed in the ports, especially when the MWUN election approaches, is a testimony of good leadership while referring to the incumbent as a light in the industry.
To them, Adeyanju deserves another term in office to consolidate all that he had started in his first term, saying, if anyone comes in now, it could derail his laudable programmes for the workers’ welfare.
The committee added that the footprints of Adeyanju’s leadership can never be erased from the sand of the maritime industry in Nigeria, adding that apart from the fact that he has surpassed his campaign promises, he has achieved for the workers what nobody had done before.
