The body said the association had studied the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed by labour leaders and the state government on Wednesday, describing it as “satanic’’ and ploy by the government to place workers in perpetual servitude.
The state chairman of OSAMDO, Dr. Isiaka Adekunle at a press briefing yesterday in Osogbo dissociated the union from the MoU, saying
members would withdraw their services from September 28 unless the government meets its demand of settlement of all outstanding salaries
and other various deductions made from members’ salaries.
He said the association was shocked at the outcome of negotiation between the government and labour which limited payment of workers’
salaries with bailout fund to May.
He said: “Our members have unanimously decided that the government should pay all our outstanding salaries, union and cooperative
deductions, leave bonuses and remit the backlog of contributory pension deductions to the relevant pension funds administrators on or before Sunday, September 27, 2015, failure which we will embark on an indefinite withdrawal of our services from Monday, September 28, 2015.’’
He added: “We are also using this medium to call on President Muhammadu Buhari to prevent Osun State government from using the bailout money for
anything else than what it is meant for. This so called agreement between labour and government is nothing but arm-twisting and cannot ensure lasting industrial peace in the state.’’
The OSAMDO chief, who alleged that the government had not released running cost to hospitals since May last year noted that members had restrained themselves from going on strike believing that President Buhari would make good his promise to release funds to bail out states that are owing their workers salaries and pensions with the proviso that the fund would be strictly committed to settlement of arrears of salaries and
pensions.
