HOUSE of Representatives Speaker, Yakubu Dogara has lamented the lopsided trade relations between Nigeria and Germany.

Dogara who spoke when he received the European nation’s Ambassador to Nigeria, Mr. Michael Zenner in his office on Wednesday, stressed the need for German businessmen to encourage the establishment of manufacturing industries in the African country.

The Speaker told the German envoy to invite the business class to take advantage of the vast investment opportunities that abound in Nigeria.

Dogara also challenged the international community to help rebuild the violence-ravaged North East region, adding that Nigeria deserved much more help especially from West in the fight against the Boko Haram insurgents having sacrificed and contributed a lot in peace-keeping across the world.

“The peace keeping role of Nigeria in Africa has been unprecedented and hence she has earned the right to be supported in her time of need, and anything short is a scar on the conscience of any fair thinking ally.”

He also assured that Nigeria would honour all treaties entered into by previous governments so long they are in the best interest of citizens.

Speaking earlier, the German envoy stressed the importance of bilateral relations between his country and Nigeria, especially in the fight against extremists and economic development.
