€8.2m theft: Suspect returns to Germany to turn herself in

Andreas Ziegel (2nd L), presiding judge at the Higher Regional Court in Dresden, eastern Germany, sits in front of defendants prior to a hearing on May 16, 2023 in the trial over a jewellery heist on the Green Vault (Gruenes Gewoelbe) museum in Dresden’s Royal Palace in November 2019.

A suspect in the theft of about 8.2 million euros (8.9 million U.S. dollars) in cash from a money transport company has returned herself to German police from Turkey.

The suspect, a 31-year-old woman, was taken into police custody at the Bremen Airport on Tuesday night, police announced on Wednesday.

The woman was allegedly responsible for packing cash as an employee of a money transport company in the northern German city of Bremen.

According to the police, on May 21, 2021, she stole several bags filled with cash and called in sick.

The missing money was only discovered a few days later.

By that time, the woman had fled and escaped abroad.
