Edo issues 30,000 C-of-O to investors

Godwin Obaseki, governor of Edo State.

Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, has said his administration issued over 30,000 Certificates of Occupancy to investorsĀ to ensure that the space is opened up for investment, especially in the real estate and built environment value chain in the last eight years.

Obaseki stated this at the commissioning of the headquarters of the Nigerian Institution of Estate Surveyors and Valuers in Abuja, saying that with the establishment of the State Geographic Information Service (EdoGIS), one could now access documents online.

He said: ā€œWhen we came, only 2,000 were issued to investors. The initiative has opened up the space so that people can easily acquire the certificate in record time, their C-of-O as an instrument to access capital for development. It takes 60 days to complete the document.

ā€œIn Nigeria today, we have had to contend with a number of issues in the built environment, such as quackery, building collapse, real estate scams, etc, which have called to question the place of professional bodies, challenging their existence and role as standard bearers.

ā€œAmid these, it is reassuring that the NIESV has held steadfast to its mandate, raising the standard for professionalism and ensuring that its members offer nothing but the best service within the built environment value chain in the country.ā€

Earlier, the President of NIESV, Johnbull Amayaevbo, said that as a long-time active player in the real estate business, they look forward to continued collaboration with the government in achieving their objectives of housing, economic development, job creation and prosperity.
