Ekpa insists on three days of sit-at-home in South East

IPOB factional leader Simon Ekpa

The Finland-based Biafran agitator, Simon Ekpa, has declared May 29 to 31, 2024, as a sit-at-home day across the South East to celebrate Biafran soldiers.

Ekpa, who was declared wanted by the Nigerian government earlier this year, said that the sit-at-home is also necessary to enable “Biafrans to vote for liberation of Biafra.”

The self-acclaimed prime minister of the Biafra government in exile, in a statement, yesterday, maintained that it is the duty of all Igbo and lovers of the South East to honour its May 29 to 31 sit-at-home in honour of slain Biafran heroes of the 1967-1970 civil war in Nigeria.

While faulting the spokesman of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Emma Powerful, for declaring only May 30 as sit-at-home day, Ekpa stressed that Biafra independence is a price every Igbo should sacrifice to actualise.

He also asked the West African Examination Council to shift its scheduled examination for the day in the South East.

Similarly, he asked the authorities of the Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, to postpone its convocation ceremony scheduled for the day.
Following this directive, the management of the university shifted its 18th convocation date. The ceremony slated for May 30 and 31, 2024, was postponed to May 31.

But Ekpa said that a three-day sit-at-home in the South East will enable Biafrans to vote in the last phase of stage one of self-referendum voting.

He said: “May 29, 2024 sit-at-home and vote; May 30, Biafra Day sit-at-home and vote; May 31, 2024, sit-at-home vote.

“In addition, the Biafra government in exile is not a political pressure group, unlike others who only agreed to sit at home on May 30.

“The Civil War only ended on pages of newspapers but has not ended physically, militarily, politically and structurally.

“I urge Biafrans across the South East and South South to vote for Biafra liberation and observe the sit-at-home.”
