Elizade varsity won’t condone acts of entitlement, ego tripping, VC warns students

Elizade

The Vice-Chancellor of Elizade University, Ilara-Mokin, Ondo State, Prof. Kayode Ijaduola, issued a stern warning to the students of the institution at the weekend, that the university will not tolerate any form of entitlement or ego-driven behaviour towards members of staff and fellow students.

Prof. Ijaduola, who stressed the importance of mutual respect, humility, and a strong work ethic in shaping the character of students, disclosed that the university is committed to upholding discipline and fostering a conducive learning environment.

The Vice-Chancellor stated this during the matriculation of 468 undergraduate and 64 postgraduate students into the university community.

While speaking at the 12th matriculation ceremony of the university, Prof. Ijaduola, who urged the fresh students not to cut short their dreams and aspirations in life through engagement in anti-social behaviours, stressed that the university abhors any form of social vice among students.

According to him, stringent measures will be imposed on any student violating the institution’s regulations.

Stressing that the university runs 34 fully accredited undergraduate programmes in the five faculties of Allied Health Sciences, Basic and Applied Sciences, Engineering, Humanities, Social and Management Sciences, and Law, the Vice-Chancellor disclosed that the university will add new ones over time.

He said: “Our campus environment is serene, comparable to what is obtained in Ivy League schools across the world, pristine in ambience, and ready to support meaningful scholarship and research among staff and students at large. We owe this largely to the benevolence of the founder, Chief Michael Ade.Ojo, a man of excellence and distinction.

“We are a leading technology-driven institution, with most of our services digitalized and available in real time via unfettered internet access for both staff and students. Teaching and learning are facilitated via the i-Learn Learning Management System deployed, whereby lecturers can upload their lecture materials well ahead of class for the students, thereby promoting self-directed learning and study ahead of class.

“Classrooms have modern multimedia teaching aids installed, and capacity building for staff is done periodically on modern pedagogy and teaching philosophy as a priority. We can only appeal to our freshmen and women to apply themselves and take advantage of the myriad of facilities available to aid seamless learning.

“However, it is a hard fact that not all matriculating students end up graduating from the same institution for a myriad of reasons. Please do not engage in acts that will constitute a breach of the oath you are about to take today, because that is a sure way of exiting the university prematurely.

“Respect other members of the university community (teaching and non-teaching staff and your colleagues alike), as respect is mutual and reciprocal. Do not engage in ego-tripping and entitlement behaviours when interacting with your instructors, as many of our youngsters tend to do today.

“This is not a lawless society, as there will be sanctions for deliberate acts of breach of others’ rights. You can be sure that you will also be treated decently and with dignity by all and sundry.”
