As Nigeria joined the rest of the world to mark the 2024 World Health Day yesterday, Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Prof. Muhammad Ali Pate, reassured the Federal Government’s commitment to advancing the well-being of Nigerians.

Noting that though the right to health is not just a lofty ideal, but a fundamental human right enshrined in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the minister said access by millions of Nigerians to quality healthcare has remained a challenge.

In a statement yesterday in Abuja, Pate stated that the nation’s health sector is faced with numerous problems like inadequate infrastructure, shortage of healthcare workers and persistent disparities.

He said the government has implemented various initiatives to promote access to healthcare services and ensure that every Nigerian has the right to health.

Pate observed that through initiatives like the Basic Health Care Provision Fund, (BHCPF) and the Nigeria Health Sector Renewal and Investment Initiative.

“we are reaching remote and underserved communities, providing essential healthcare services and promoting health education.”

BESIDES, the Jehovah’s Witnesses has launched a website for easy-to-access Bible-based content that gives practical suggestions for maintaining a healthy lifestyle.

According to the faith-based organisation, there have been diseases, civil unrest and environmental concerns by people seeking physical, emotional and mental well-being.

It noted that thousands are turning to an unlikely and free resource for advice. Regional spokesman in Lagos for the body, Jahswill Stephen said: “Some people may think that the Bible doesn’t address modern concerns such as our health. But many will be surprised just how current the Scriptures are on matters of healthy living.

“Though troubling events have many focusing on their overall health, the desire for more energy, mental clarity and emotional balance has been ongoing. Recognising this, the World Health Organisation (WHO) has even established the observance of World Health Day to draw worldwide attention to a different aspect of global health each year.”
