Trucks Transit Parks Limited (TTP) has partnered with the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) to deploy electronic-tag technology for trucks across the nation’s ports to boost efficiency and security in the maritime sector.

This partnership, aligning with the Presidential Enabling Business Environment Committee (PEBEC) goals, will ensure the technology is provided at no cost to truckers.

The e-tag system will apply to all trucks entering major ports like Apapa and Tincan Island, including those owned by industrial companies.

The system will feature an electronic tagging system with embedded minimum safety standards (MSS) and other compliance measures, facilitating real-time monitoring and reducing fraudulent activities.

The Managing Director of TTP, Jama Onwubuariri, highlighted the project’s aims, stating that this shift from paper-based to digital MSS will significantly enhance the security and operational efficiency of truck movements within and around the ports.

He said it would also improve the ease of doing business for truckers and the maritime or blue economy.

He said the integrated solution, developed in-house by TTP’s team of experts, is meticulously designed to address industry-specific needs and combat fraudulent activities by truckers.

Onwubuariri said TTP has committed to fully fund the project, demonstrating their commitment to enhancing Nigeria’s digital infrastructure without imposing financial burdens on truck operators.

He said this strategic initiative not only supports the broader objectives of the NPA but also promotes technological advancement and improved business conditions within Nigeria’s maritime industry.

According to him, the successful deployment of this technology will mark a critical step forward in creating a more secure and efficient port ecosystem, benefiting the entire nation.
