Following reported flash floods across Lagos metropolis on Wednesday, the Minister of Works, David Umahi, has directed the desilting of drains along federal roads in the state, with a view to deflood the highways.

The Federal Controller of Works, Lagos, Mrs Olukorede Kesha, who disclosed this in a statement released to journalists on yesterday, noted that contrary to some reports, Lagos was not experiencing widespread submergence from flood.

According to her, the ministry, however acknowledged that localised flooding had affected certain sections of federal roads within the city.

She added: “Our teams are currently deployed to assess the situation, while desilting of drains along the affected roads are currently being carried out.

“The ministry understands the inconvenience caused by these flash floods and is committed to eliminating the disruptions caused thereafter.”
