Foundation raises awareness on drug abuse among youths

In commemoration of this year’s International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, also known as World Drug Day, a non-governmental and non-profit organisation for youths’ rehabilitation and reintegration, HelpGate Foundation, has organised an Art competition for secondary school students.

The event, with the theme: “Prevention is better than Cure,” aimed at raising awareness about the consequences of drug abuse among youths.
According to it, this year’s programme, is a shift from previous ones and stems from showcasing talents using the medium through Art to voice out the dangers of drugs, its resultant effects, as well as preventive measures and living a healthy balanced purposeful life.

The event was attended by over 250 participants, including students, principals and teachers from participating schools, special guests from various agencies, distinguished guests and notable names in the Arts and Theatre as judges and panelists.

The competition featured entries in various categories – Artwork and paintings, spoken word, skits, musical performances and songs, with cash prizes to winners and consolations to participants.

Founder and Executive Director, Temitope Emovon, during her speech and taking a cue from the keynote address, enjoined all stakeholders to make efforts to combat drug problem through collaboration and collective actions in prevention, and commitment in creating an environment where youths would be empowered to live a healthy fulfilling life void of drug stain.
