A rights group, Centre for Social and Economic Rights (CSER) has requested a councilor in Agbado Oke-Odo Local Council Development Area (LCDA) of Lagos State, Emmanuel Ogunyemi to clear his name from corruption allegations against him.
The group said Emmanuel, who was alleged to be in breach of Section 22 of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Related Offences Commission (ICPC) Act, for concurrently drawing salaries from the Lagos State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) and Agbado Oke Council should clear his name.
An organisation, LYGEL Youths and Leadership Initiatives, had in a petition, dated August 11, 2021 and addressed to the ICPC, levelled the allegation against Ogunyemi.
However, Ogunyemi denied the allegation, saying that he never violated any law.
The group said: “We recall that a civil society organisation LYGEL Youths and leadership Initiatives had in a petition dated August 11, 2021 and addressed to the ICPC, levelled allegation of fraud against Mr. Ogunyemi for collecting double salaries as an elected councillor and as a full time employee of SUBEB, consequent upon, which the anti corruption body invited the lawmaker to it’s office via an invitation letter dated January 26, 2022 for questioning and investigation on the matter.
“However, the council leader was granted administrative bail at the ICPC, pending his arraignment in court on the allegations levelled against him for which, a prima facie case has been established according to our investigation.
“We commend the ICPC for being alive to it’s statutory function in investigating this matter, but we are at a loss to explain why this established case of fraud has not been concluded to a logical conclusion through arraignment of the suspect in court, as we all know which is a fact, justice delayed is justice denied.”
