The Project Coordinator of the Hydrocarbon Pollution Remediation Project (HYPREP), Prof. Nenibarini Zabbey, has urged youths from the Ogoni Ethnic Nationality in Rivers State not to indulge in activities that will jeopardise the clean-up exercise.

Speaking at the first quarter interactive session with Ogoni youths and women to update them on the level of progress of the projects, yesterday, Zabbey urged them to take a united stance against oil theft and illegal artisanal oil refining to safeguard the shorelines from re-pollution.

Zabbey noted that the Project Coordination Office must update stakeholders on the progress of work quarterly for transparency in line with its open-door policy. He disclosed that the Centre of Excellence for Environmental Remediation (CEER) construction in Wiiyakara has advanced, disclosing that the project is currently 47 per cent completed.

He also noted that the Mangrove Restoration project contractors have moved to the site and have started preliminary revegetation activities in their work area.

In a related development, the project coordinator also spoke at the career enhancement and employability workshop for fresh Ogoni youths, urging them to embrace the power of skill acquisition.

He said: “To embark on this journey of self-discovery and self-improvement, let us remember our ultimate goal: build fulfilling and meaningful careers that align with our passions and aspirations.

“Let us embrace the spirit of curiosity, resilience and determination, as we navigate the modern career and job market complexities.

“I urge you to embrace the power of skills acquisition and be motivated by the new lessons learned in this unique workshop to leverage your talents and abilities to enhance your career and employability.”
