Immigration moves base to dispel irregular migrants

Muhammad Babandede

In order to rid Nigeria’s borders of illegal migrants and secure border areas taken over by irregular migrants, the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has commissioned a Forward Operation Base (FOB) at Efraya in Cross River State.

Comptroller-General (CG) of the NIS, Muhammed Babandede, made this known at the weekend while commissioning the base.

In a statement signed by the Public Relations Officer of the service, Sunday James, Babandede said many of the country’s border areas have been taken over by migrants, hence the need to safeguard the borders against the illegal migrants.

He said: “The commissioning of the FOB is another milestone in the service’s resolve to making sure that FOB are built in all our border frontiers for effective border policing, as well as address the challenges in combating frontally the menace of cross border banditry, including smuggling of migrants (SOMs) and trafficking in persons (TIPs).”

Governor of the state, Ben Ayade expressed his support to the agency and urged the paramount ruler of Etung Local Council, where the base FOB is sited, His Royal Majesty Ntue Atue and Dr. Emmanuel Oru Ojong, the Council Chairman to continue to support the NIS.
