Okorocha, who now represents Imo West Senatorial District in the Senate, recently declared his intention and preparedness to contest the 2023 presidential election.
In a statement issued by the Acting Publicity Secretary of the Nwafor-led faction, Micheal Anyanwu, stated that Okorocha is eminently qualified to lead Nigeria and urged APC to adopt him as its standard-bearer for the 2023 presidential poll.
He said the former Imo governor has the experience and qualities required to deliver good governance and development as president of the country.
“The Imo State chapter of APC under the leadership of Hon. Daniel Nwafor wishes to once again restate our confidence in Okorocha’s leadership and to reaffirm that he still has our endorsement and mandate to contest the office of the president of Nigeria in 2023.
“Apart from his accomplishments in key leadership positions, he (Okorocha) has shown dedicated selfless service to humanity and commitment to the development, unity, peace and progress of Nigeria, and Africa,” the statement reads.
But reacting to the Nwafor-led faction’s submission, the Ebere-led group denied endorsing Okorocha for the presidency and cautioned Nigerians against entrusting their future in the hands of the former Imo governor, who, it said, does not respect constituted authority and institutions.
But the Publicity Secretary of the party, Cajetan Duke, said: “Imo people and Nigerians should know that the state APC, led by Ebere, did not pass a vote of confidence in Okorocha and given his pedigree as governor of Imo State, he lacks the character, competence and credibility to govern Nigeria”.
“Hence, it will be a huge mistake with grave consequences for the country if that should happen. As a party, we insist that such will never happen again and Nigeria can not afford to make the mistake of voting Okorocha as president, because it will be catastrophic, costly and difficult to correct.
“Once in power, he behaves like a drunken emperor. He becomes unrepentantly incorrigible and uncontrollable and that is not the kind of president Nigeria deserves.”
