As Ayu, ex-VP refuse to present flag to guber candidate
Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, yesterday, promised to end pervasive insecurity and revive agriculture if voted to power on February 25.
Besides, he pledged to open up the Northern economy by reopening the country’s borders for free flow of businesses and reinvigorating the economic viability of Kano.
He made the promises while addressing party loyalists at the presidential campaign rally held at Sani Abacha Stadium in the ancient commercial city.
The former Vice President, who challenged Kano residents to choose from among prosperity, peace and security, declared that only PDP could guarantee sustainable development in Nigeria.
He lamented that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) had “ruined the economic prosperity and mismanage the resources of the nation and never deserves to return to power.”
Director-General, PDP Presidential Campaign Council and Governor of Sokoto state, Aminu Tambuwa, advised the people to be conscious of rigging plan by the ruling party.
He declared that PDP would resist “plot to manipulate the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) machines,” adding that Nigeria must insist on free, fair and credible elections.
Also speaking, National Chairman of the party, Senator Iyorchia Ayu, described the APC government as a contraption that has “lost the ingenuity to run a proper governance,” calling for total rejection of the governing party.
He stated that APC has inflicted untold pains on Nigerians via currency swap and fuel scarcity.
The campaign train earlier paid traditional homage to Emir of Kano, Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero, where Atiku sought the support of the emirate.
CURIOUSLY, Ayu and the presidential candidate avoided presenting the party’s flag to Kano gubernatorial candidate, Muhammad Sani Abacha.
Although, the National Working Committee (NWC) had favoured Sadiq Wali, son of former Minister of Foreign affairs, Amb. Aminu Wali, as gubernatorial flag-bearer, the Appeal Court, however, affirmed candidacy of the scion to late General Sani Abacha family.
