National Commissioner supervising Cross River, Edo and Delta states, Prof. Rhode Gumus, yesterday, issued certificates of return to Delta State Governor-elect, Sheriff Oborevwori; his deputy, Mr. Monday Onyeme, and 29 members-elect of the state House of Assembly at the INEC State head office, Asaba.
Gumus said INEC issued the certificates as symbols of authority for the recipients to be counted as duly elected.
Also commenting on the exercise, Delta State Resident Electoral Commissioner, Rev. Monday Udoh Tom, urged the Governor-elect and others to shun divide-and-rule in running the affairs of the state.
Udoh Tom said: “As we issued you certificate of return today (yesterday), see yourselves as servants of the people and lead every resident of the state and not only those who voted for you.”
To the INEC commissioner, one of the problems of this country is that the winner takes it all, saying: “If you are able to embrace those that didn’t vote for you and make them happy, this country will be a better place for us all.”
Oborevwori assured the people of stable transition and better days ahead for all residents of Delta.
“I have just been presented with the certificate of return by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), arising from my emergence as the governor-elect of Delta State on March 20, 2023.”
“With the issuance of the certificate, we must now turn our attention to ensuring a seamless and stable transition in pursuant of my Advancing Delta agenda.”
