Governor Yusuf swearing in Bilkisu Indabo as the first female Interim Management Committee Chairman of Wudil Local Government Council

Kano State governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has inaugurated five additional female judges into the State High Court, fulfilling his campaign promises on social inclusion and women empowerment as outlined in his blueprint.

During a ceremony coinciding with the 2024 International Women’s Day (IWD), the governor emphasised the significant task ahead in ensuring the fair and credible dispensation of justice to safeguard the safety and fundamental rights of Kano citizens.

In a statement issued by Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, the governor’s spokesperson, a total of nine High Court judges were sworn in, with five of them being females.

The female judges include Justice Fatima Adamu, Justice Hauwa Lawan, Justice Farida Rabi’u Danbappa, Justice Halima Aliyu Nasir, and Justice Aisha Mahmoud.

In a separate ceremony, Governor Yusuf also inaugurated RN Bilkisu Indabo as the first female Interim Management Committee Chairman of the Wudil Local Government Council.

Among the 44 Local Government Interim Management Committee Chairmen inaugurated, Bilkisu was the sole female appointee.

Furthermore, the governor launched the distribution of empowerment to approximately one thousand women farmers, providing agricultural inputs such as fertilizer, rice and maize seeds, goats, and water pumping machines for irrigation farming.

The beneficiaries were chosen from neighbouring communities near the renowned Falgore forest to mitigate the impacts of climate change and enhance the livelihoods of rural women farmers.

During the International Women’s Day 2024 ceremony at Africa House, Governor Yusuf emphasised the importance of translating words into action, stating,

“We have deliberately selected women farmers as recipients of this empowerment to commemorate the day with a commendable action that can ignite the rapid progress of our women, particularly those residing in rural areas.”

The empowerment program for International Women’s Day 2024 was facilitated through the Kano State Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscapes Project (ACReSAL).
