Kano gov places commissioners on six-month probation

Alhaji Abba Kabir-Yusuf
Threatens to sack underperforming appointees
Governor Abba Yusuf of Kano State has reminded his cabinet members that he will not hesitate to dismiss any appointee, whose performance is not satisfactory.

While presiding over his maiden State Executive Council (SEC) meeting at the inner chamber of Africa House, Government House, yesterday, he disclosed that his commissioners were already on six-month probation.

Although, the governor was convinced the council members’ appointment were based on merit, professionalism, track record and competence, he urged them to be above board for the task ahead.

“Let me urge you all to sustain the tempo of loyalty, dedication, commitment to duty and honesty in the discharge of your duties. Be accountable and mindful of the confidence reposed in us by the good people of Kano.

“I am reminding you that your appointment is for a probationary period of six months, after which an evaluation team under my headship will monitor the performance of the ministries. Those who performed well will be appreciated and those who under-performed will be pulled out,” he said.

The governor charged the commissioners to work as one family, seeing themselves as the team to salvage the state from the mismanagement of successive administrations and deliver the dividends of democracy to every nook and cranny of the state.

He used the opportunity to thank Kano people and assured them that they would soon start to see positive changes with direct bearing on their lives.
