Lagos CP urged to probe alleged PCRC chairman’s role in tenant’s detention, victimisation

A Lagos-based man, Chibuike Isaac, has cried out to the Lagos State Commissioner of Police (CP), Fayoade Adegoke, over the alleged injustice he suffered, including detention for six days.

He claimed the chairman, Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC), Area M, Festus Ehis Okosun, was responsible for his ordeal. Okosun was said to have instructed that Isaac be detained, following a fight between the caretaker of his house, Chinedu Onyekanma, and Isaac over alleged injustices perpetrated on him, his wife, and a two-year-old baby.

Okosun, however, denied the allegation. He responded: “Which influence did I use? Is there influence in law? Evidence was proved. He fought with a caretaker. I am not a party to it.”

According to a petition sent to the CP, Isaac and Onyekanma were injured during the quarrel, and both came to Igando police station.

Isaac said he was never listened to, despite having arrived earlier at the station. Rather, the caretaker of Okosun carried the day, hence the six-day detention and alleged extortion by the Investigating Police Officer (IPO) of N45,000 for bail and N101,000 for the treatment of the caretaker’s injury, of which he immediately paid N30,000.

Isaac further alleged that while he was in detention, Okosun ordered the caretaker to throw out his belongings, even though his rent expires the following year.

He added: “We want the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), Igando, CSP Sulieman Kabiru, Divisional Crime Officer (DCO), Inspector Victoria, the IPO and all the parties involved in this matter to be brought for questioning. We do not have confidence in the DPO Igando and the Area M Commander to handle this matter because of their bias.”
