Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, yesterday declared that the ongoing payment of wage award to workers and pensioners in the state would be extended by another six months.

Makinde made the announcement during the official commissioning of a 12.5km Challenge-Odo Ona-Elewe-Elebu-Apata dualised road project in Ido Local Council of the state.

The governor had on October 6, 2023, approved the payment of N25,000 and N15,000 wage award for workers and pensioners respectively.

He lamented the present economic hardship on personal and household income occasioned by the Federal Government’s twin policies of removal of fuel subsidy and floating of naira.

Makinde, however, assured that his government would strive to do more to make life more meaningful for people of the state.

While reacting to the report of PDP governors owing workers salary in their states, Makinde, who highlighted the commitment of his administration to the welfare of workers and pensioners, stated that civil servants have continued to collect their salaries on or before the 25th of every month till date since 2019.
