Many homeless as rainfall wreaks havoc in Oyo community

Homes lies in ruins after rainstorm hit Ajaawa community

Many residents of Ajaawa, the headquarters of Ogo-Oluwa Local Council of Oyo State have been rendered homeless following heavy downfalls in the area.


One of the affected persons described the two separate rainfalls as unfortunate.
The victim disclosed that two persons were injured and rushed to a hospital.

The victim, who didn’t want to be named, said: ‘’It was a disastrous occurrence. The first rainfall occurred nine days ago (last week Thursday), and it destroyed over 100 houses. We are yet to recover from that when another downpour started yesterday at about 4:00p.m. and when it stopped over 200 houses had been destroyed. It is devastating.”


The traditional ruler of the town, Alajaawa of Ajaawa, Oba Thompson Adeyeye, in an interview confirmed the development.

Oba Adeyeye expressed grief over the disaster as he urged governments, political office holders and philanthropists to assist the community.

Meanwhile, the lawmaker representing Ogo-Oluwa/ Surulere federal constituency, Sunday Makanjuola, has sent his domestic aides to commiserate with the people of the town over the disaster and assess the extent of damage.

Obalade Kadewole, an aide to the lawmaker, who revealed this, said: “Honourable is seriously pained by the development and is strenuously working on bringing relief to the victims.”
