Methodist Church Lagos West Diocese holds synod

The Methodist Church Nigeria, Diocese of Lagos-West, has said that it will start its three-day 2024 yearly synod at Methodist Church Nigeria, Odi-Olowo, Mushin, Lagos, today, April 19, to Sunday, April 21, 2024, with both the ministerial and lay sessions.

A former member of the House of Representatives, Niyi Oyemade, is expected to declare the synod open, while the synod programme will be rounded off with a thanksgiving service on Sunday at the same venue at 10.00 a.m.

Chief Host of the Synod and the Diocesan Bishop, Rt. Revd. Ezekiel Akande, said that this year’s synod, with the theme, “Arise and Build,” had been prayerfully selected to challenge Christians to stand up for what is right in the society beyond the four walls of the church and build a better and God-fearing society at large.

He said: “It is right time for us as Christians to rise beyond our religious beliefs in our comfort zones and extend our hands of fellowship to all other citizens of our dear nation Nigeria to jointly build a Godly-led country we will all be proud of.

“As Methodists, we have challenged ourselves to take a position on how best we can create and add value to our immediate societies by bringing it to the front burner at this year’s synod of the Diocese and pray for peace and togetherness among nations all over the world.”

According to the Lay President, Diocese of Lagos West, DejiAderibigbe, this year’s synod is expected to attract notable personalities within and outside the Methodist family to be led by the Prelate, Methodist Church Nigeria, Dr. Oliver Ali-Aba, among other dignitaries.
