Millions witness total solar eclipse across North America

Mexicans catching a glimpse of the solar eclipse yesterday

People in Mazatlán, Mexico were the first to see the total solar eclipse at 2:07p.m. ET yesterday before it continued its journey into Texas, United States travelling along a “path of totality” spanning more than 100 miles across the width of the continent, as millions of people were treated to stunning views as the moon passed between Earth and the sun and temporarily blocked the sun’s light.

In the U.S., the sun was fully obscured for a few minutes in 15 states from Texas to Maine, but the eclipse was at least partially visible in 49 states. Alaska is the only state where Americans didn’t get to catch a glimpse of the eclipse.

In Arkansas, there was a ‘total eclipse of the heart’ as hundreds of couples from around the country flocked to a Russellville, Arkansas, soccer field to tie the knot at the very moment the moon covered the sun. Marriage is through sickness and in health, through life’s brightest moments and its darkest. But it appeared some wanted to get the darkest out of the way first.
