NANS backs Power Minister, urges national patience and support for sector reforms

Adebayo Adelabu, Minister of Power

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has expressed strong support for the Minister of Power and his ongoing efforts to reform and enhance the Nigerian power sector.

In alignment with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s vision for a “renewed hope agenda,” NANS commended the minister’s deep commitment to addressing the myriad challenges within the power sector, ranging from generation and transmission to distribution.

The Senate President, NANS, Ekundina Segun Elvis, in a statement, said the student body has closely monitored recent interviews with the minister, noting his clear outline of the obstacles facing the sector and the proactive measures being implemented to address them.

“From the successful completion of power plant projects to tackling liquidity issues and expanding rural electrification, we are confident that the Honourable Minister’s initiatives will bring about significant improvements and lasting solutions,” stated Elvis.

He also praised the minister’s strategic approach and dedication to ensuring reliable and affordable electricity reaches every corner of Nigeria.

However, the NANS Senate Council noted with concern the “orchestrated attacks and collective opposition” targeting the minister, purportedly by individuals driven by personal gain and narrow interests.

“It is disheartening to see attempts to undermine the Honourable Minister’s commendable efforts through unfounded criticisms,” Elvis remarked.

He urged the minister to remain focused and not be distracted by the tactics of these self-serving critics.

The statement concluded by reaffirming NANS’ unwavering support for the minister’s leadership and initiatives, recognizing the complexity of the challenges in the power sector and the need for time, courage, and cooperative efforts to surmount them.

“We remain dedicated to working in harmony with the Honourable Minister and other stakeholders to achieve a sustainable and dependable electricity supply for all Nigerians,” the Senate President affirmed.

NANS calls on the Nigerian student community and all stakeholders to continue supporting the ministry’s efforts, underscoring the importance of unity and collaboration in achieving the national goals of power sector reform.
