National Assembly canvasses strengthening of local production

The National Assembly has canvassed strengthening of local production in Nigeria. Chairman, Senate Committee on Health, Ibrahim Yahaya Oloriegbe, Chairman, House Committee on Health, Yusuf Sununu and Chairman, Pharmacists Council of Nigeria, Prof. Ahmed Tijani, who made the call during a tour of Emzor’s state-of-the-art manufacturing plant at Sagamu, Ogun State, also sought ban on importation of goods made in Nigeria.

They said consuming locally made products would improve the economy and create jobs. Oloriegbe said: “We had some interactions with the Federal Ministry of Health, and there were some motions that were taken on how to increase local content in terms of pharmaceutical products in Nigeria.”

On his part, Sununu observed: “The hope is blink about the Nigerian health sector, but my confidence was restored after the facility’s tour, considering the number of products that are produced by Emzor Pharmaceutical, and also the talented youths we saw while going round the facility.”

Also speaking, the firm’s Executive Director, Uzoma Ezeoke, noted: “We promote unlimited wellness, which to us, translates as having quality products available and affordable.”

So, when we advocate buy made-in-Nigeria, we need people to understand what that means. We say with pride that this factory can stand on any continent and do very well. We have a lot of young and vibrant people.”
