Nnamdi Kanu: Lawyer gets permission to visit IPOB leader in DSS detention

Nnamdi Ejiofor, a lawyer to the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) Nnamdi Kanu said, he has been granted permission to visit the separatist agitator.

“Thankfully Our effort is yielding the desired result, we have just received a communication approving Our visit to Our Client- Mazi Nnamdi Kanu,” Ejiofor tweeted on Friday.

Ejiofor said he “shall keep the World posted on the outcome, immediately after the meeting, later in the Day. God is with Us.”

Kanu is currently in the custody of Nigeria’s secret police – Department of State Services (DSS) in an undisclosed location.

He was rearrested on Sunday by the Nigerian government and returned to the country for the continuation of his trial.

The IPOB leader was arraigned before Justice Binta Nyako of the Federal High Court, Abuja on Monday.

Kanu, who was brought to the court amidst tight security, arrived at the court at about 1:40 pm. The IPOB leader is facing a sleuth of charges, most of which are connected to his call for the independence of the southeastern region of Nigeria.

The Nigerian government has vowed to expose and prosecute those backing the IPOB leader.

Nigeria’s information minister Lai Mohammed, who issued the threat, insisted that the full wrath of the law would be visited on those collaborating with the separatist leader to undermine Nigeria’s sovereignty and unity.

Mohammed said none of the collaborators, irrespective of social status, would be spared, stressing that no individual or group is bigger than a country.

The Biafra chief activist was first arrested and charged in 2015 on an 11-count revolving around treasonable felony, terrorism, and illegal possession of firearms.
