Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State, yesterday, urged the people of Ogoni to promote peace and eschew division among themselves. Fubara, while speaking at the Ogoni Day celebration at Bori Town in Khana Council, solicited support and partnership with his administration.

The governor, represented by his Deputy, Prof. Ngozi Odu, said his administration would develop communities in Ogoni land, News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports.

The urbanisation, the governor assured, would begin to manifest when the ongoing reconstruction of internal roads in Bori Town was extended to other communities in the council.

“We do not joke with all the councils in the senatorial district, in which Ogoni is a major block; therefore, bringing development here is top priority of this administration.

“You know that we have talked about electricity and security in Ogoni land and these are top priorities of government,” he said.

Fubara stressed the importance of peaceful atmosphere in achieving development in Ogoni land and enjoined them to embrace peace.

“I, therefore, want to plead with everyone to put our hands together and allow peace to prevail across the state because without peace, there will be unnecessary division. We don’t need that now,” he added.

Chairman of the occasion, who is also the traditional ruler,Gbenemene Tai, Samuel Nnee, said Ogoni Day celebration availed them the opportunity to renew their resolve to jealously guard the freedom and the rights God had given to Ogoni people.
