Osborn Nweze Umahi, Falz and other potential future politicians

Many young Nigerians are tipped for future political careers, even while they are busy pursuing careers that are anything but politics.

For instance, given the trend in the country’s political history, Nigerians expect the sons of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar or one of the sons of President Tinubu to vie for political positions in future. The rationale behind such thinking is that “fruits don’t fall too far from their trees.”

Examples often cited include former Senate President David Mark’s daughter, Blessing Onu, who is a legislator in the House of Representatives, and former Kaduna State governor, Nasir el-Rufai’s son, Bello, who is in the House of Representatives.

Someone like Falz, a rapper and activist, is expected to someday join politics, given that he and his famous lawyer father, who once contested the governorship of Ekiti State, are habitually challenging corrupt politicians and government officials.

Another politician’s son who is expected to toe his father’s path is Osborn Nweze Umahi, who is the son of the erstwhile Ebonyi State governor, David Umahi also the present Minister of Works.

Osborn Nweze Umahi, born on March 14, 1998, has followed his father in every sense of a son who is a chip off the old block.

Just like his engineer father, he studied Civil Engineering at the University of Surrey, England, where he earned a bachelor’s degree at the age of 21.

He followed his father into business by working under him in his company, Brass Oil and Construction Limited. He took the reins of the company as MD when his father became the governor of Ebonyi State.

He deepened his business acumen by studying for a Master’s in Financial and Investment Management at the University of Aberdeen, Scotland.

Aside from having a famous father and oil billionaire Arthur Eze as his uncle, the 26-year-old has also made his name by starting a company of his own when he founded Osborn Lapalm Group, a hospitality company and also works as director of finance at Forte GCC Innovative Solutions, an asset management company.

While he has not shown any inclination for politics, he was frequently seen with his father in the company of many political figures in the thick of the 2023 election season. This development made many Nigerians believe that he was positioning himself for a future political career.
