Oyo demolishes illegal structures along Ojoo market

The demolished structures

Hundreds of illegal structures, including shops, kiosks, warehouses and makeshift stalls were, yesterday, demolished at the popular Ojoo Market, in the Akinyele Local Council of Oyo State.

The development was part of ongoing moves by Governor Seyi Makinde to sanitise Ibadan environs and stop indiscriminate dumping of refuse.

Affected traders and shop owners were thrown into panic.

The Ministry of Lands, Housing and Urban Development claimed it served the traders quite notice a long time ago but they refused to move out of the market, popularly called ‘Inside Net’.

Chairman of Inside Net, Muhideen Ganiyu, said: “The quit notice was too short. All executive members of all the affected marketers will soon meet. So, I cannot say anything for now.”

However, speaking on the demolition, the Commissioner for Lands, Housing and Urban Development, Williams Akin-Funmilayo, said Governor Makinde had visited the market personally to address the traders.

He stressed that the government would provide another place because the current location was unhealthy.
