National Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Samuel Anyanwu, has urged the new President of Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Joe Ajaero, to partner with opposition parties for rapid economic development.

Anyanwu, who gave the charge in a statement signed by his Special Adviser on Media, Ikenna Onuoha, said the task before Ajaero is enormous, and requires a man that has genuine interest of workers, and the entire Nigerians, at heart.

According to him, “Ajaero came on board when workers in Nigeria have lost trust due to poor and harsh policies of current All Progressives Congress (APC) administration.”

He regretted how President Muhammadu Buhari’s government abandoned workers and, instead, treated them with levity.

The PDP national scribe, therefore, charged Ajaero to device healthy strategies, aimed at solving Labour’s issues with government, especially the minimum wage, expressing hope that his election will guarantee good welfare packages for workers in Nigeria.

According to Anyanwu, the fact that other aspirants in the election stepped down for Ajaero’s emergence speaks volume about his wide acceptance and devotion to the union.

He appealed to him to resist pressure from government to betray his members, admonishing him to do everything possible to regain the integrity of the union.

While congratulating Ajaero and others elected with him, Anyanwu expressed optimism that the union will experience robust, viable and proactive leadership under him, having served in the past as National Secretary and Deputy President of NLC, respectively, without blemish.

MEANWHILE, Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State has congratulated Ajaero, saying he has joined the many sons and daughters of Imo, who have made the state proud.

His colleagues at the 13th National Delegates Conference of NLC, in Abuja, returned Ajaero, the Deputy National President of NLC since 2011, unopposed, on Wednesday.

He succeeded Ayuba Wabba, whose tenure has elapsed.
