PHOTOS: Nigerian Army announces promotion of first female UK trained officer to Lieutenant position

The Nigerian Army has promoted Second Lieutenant Princess Oluchukwu Owowoh to the rank of Lieutenant, making her the first female Nigerian officer to have received training at the prestigious Royal Military Academy Sandhurst in the United Kingdom.

The promotion was announced on the Nigerian Army’s official social media account on June 26, 2024.

According to the statement, the Chief of Army Staff has authorised the advancement of Lt. Owowoh from her previous rank of Second Lt.

It reads, “The Chief of Army Staff Lieutenant General TA Lagbaja has authorised the promotion of Second Lt. Princess Oluchukwu Owowo to the substantive rank of Lieutenant (Lt)in the Nigerian Army.”

The decorated ceremony took place at the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) Officer’s Mess and Golf Club, where the NDA Commandant, Major General JO Ochai, praised Lt. Owowoh’s exceptional performance during her cadet training.

Additionally, Major General Ochai said that Lt. Owowoh’s exemplary track record as a cadet has earned her the rare opportunity to be trained at the prestigious Royal Military Academy Sandhurst in the UK.
