Police arrest eight suspects over killing of ‘Suya’ seller, two others in Imo

Security operatives of the Imo State police command have arrested eight suspects over the gruesome killing of a grilled meat seller popularly known as ‘suya’ and two others.

The three were shot at close range by suspected gunmen in Ohii, Imo State, at the weekend.Consequently, the Commissioner of Police (CP), Aboki Danjuma, visited the scene and deployed tactical officers to fish out the perpetrators, and forestall future occurrence.

The command’s spokesperson, Henry Okoye, in a statement, yesterday, said the CP also directed the operatives to work with other sister security agencies to fish out the hoodlums.

The statement reads: “The Commissioner of Police Imo State Command, CP Aboki Danjuma, has condemned the attack and gruesome murder of a grilled meat (suya) seller and two others at Ohii in Mbaitoli Local Council of Imo State and ordered the immediate deployment of available operational assets and tactical teams to go all out in synergy with other sister security agencies and hunt down the hoodlums responsible for the senseless act of violence.

“CP Aboki Danjuma gave this directive during his visit to the crime scene for an on-the-spot assessment of the ugly incident.”

Consequently, a total of eight suspects in connection to the murder case have been arrested. They are currently undergoing an intense investigation and have provided useful information to the Police.”


Okoye said the CP also directed the Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), and the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), in charge of the jurisdiction to embark on a robust patrol and raids of hideouts of the criminals, stressing: “Accordingly, the Commissioner of Police has tasked the Assistant Commissioner of Police in Charge of Mbaitoli and the DPO to embark on robust visibility patrol, raids of suspected criminal hideouts, and emplace adequate security measures to forestall any future occurrence.”

“ Danjuma, while commiserating with the families, friends and associates of the deceased, urged those living around the area to go about their businesses as security measures were beefed up.

“The CP calls on the general public particularly the residents of Mbaitoli to go about their lawful businesses without any form of fear or intimidation as the Command is on top of the situation and investigation is ongoing to bring the culprits to book. He urged them to support the Police in the fight against crime and criminality in the State by reporting any suspicious person seen or clandestine activities observed within their vicinity to the nearest Police Station or via our emergency lines. 

“To this end, the Commissioner of Police commiserates with the families and friends of the deceased and vows that no stone would be left unturned in ensuring the perpetrators are brought to book.”
